How Can I Get Better Today?
The answer – Become Self Aware.
“I think self-awareness is probably the most important thing towards being a champion.” -Billie Jean King
I believe that this behavior skill is one of the toughest to learn. We spend so much of our life on
autopilot and have so many blind spots that we never see. You must be aware before you can enhance
anything.
Before you can DMGB at anything or improve any aspect of your life, you must be aware of your
current situation. And your assessment of your current situation has to be brutally honest.
We have between 70-80k thoughts a day. 74% of those thoughts are negative, so becoming aware of
our thoughts and knowing how to redirect them is a life skill worth learning.
There are 5 aspects of awareness:
1) Physical Awareness – Ex. Body, Energy Levels, Hydration, Eating, Sleeping
2) Mental Awareness – Identifying helpful and hurtful thoughts
3) Emotional Awareness – Understanding emotions are not bad, our response to them can be bad.
4) Situational Awareness – Taking in things from your surroundings.
5) Dynamics Awareness – Aware of relationships and your role within them.
“Awareness is like the sun: When it shines on things, they are transformed.” – Eckhart Tolle
If you would like to become more aware… start this today. Just before bed, journal the answers to the following questions. Repeat this each night just before bed.
1) What 3 things went well today, and why did they go well?
2) What 2 things need to get better tomorrow, and how will I make them go better?
3) What is the 1 thing I’ve learned about myself today, and why is that important?
