How Can I Get Better Today?

The answer – FOCUS.

How many opportunities do we miss due to distraction? We are easily living in the most distracted times
ever. With social media, cell phones, and insta everything, our attention is as divided as the world is on
politics. The average person focuses 47% of the time where their feet are. 53% of the time, our mind is not in the same place as our body. We must learn to focus in the face of all this distraction.

On a positive note, we can learn to focus. It is a learnable skill just as the other behavior traits are. Focus is the ability to be locked in what you need to be locked in on, when you need to be! This will make you better in every aspect. It’s a game changer. It will make you a better you! Focus is also about bringing your attention to the present moment, the only place we can truly be. We do want to look into the past for things we can learn and spend a little time looking into the future, which is our goals but the present is where we need to spend the majority of our focus.

Our brain uses up 20% of our body’s energy. When our energy is depleted we have issues focusing. The
more we can automate activities, the more energy we can save for the things we need it for. The word for
this is automaticity. Google it, lol. Multitasking is bogus. There is no such thing. Our focus shifts back and forth really fast but multitasking we are not doing.

We give our power to things we focus on. Focus on positive things. #DMGB

3 Levels of Focus
1) Disengaged – Probably where most people spend their time
2) Engaged – Getting work done
3) Locked In – Getting great work done

3 Steps to Refocus
1) Identify – Find the things that distract you and try to eliminate or hide them.
2) Decide – What’s Important Now, W.I.N.
3) Lock on & Lock in – This is when you have pushed through distraction and are right where you need
to be at the right time.

Put that phone up while trying to do significant work, as well as when you are trying to sleep. It will still be
there. If you do not, you will get a text, which will cause you to pick it up and before you know it you are
watching monkeys on youtube. You know this happens. Eliminate distractions for great work!
