Dr. Rob Gilbert, Sports Psychologist at Montclair State University (New Jersey), started teaching
a night class 34 years ago. As you may know, most night classes meet once a week. Dr. Gilbert
did not believe he was having enough of an impact on his students meeting once a week so he
started leaving a 3 minute motivational message daily on a hotline that they could call and listen
to.
Well, 34 years later, 12,542 messages later he has NEVER missed a day, leaving this message
for anyone with a phone to call. This is one of the greatest examples of DISCIPLINE that exists
today. Can you imagine starting a streak and keeping it going for 34 years, amazing.
I became a caller about 15 years ago. Since that time, Dr. Gilbert and I have become friends. If I
have a business presentation to do, he will take 2-3 hrs out of any day to help me build a
speech. I get the great opportunity to sit in on classes and tell my story to his sports psychology
classes. I have spent many hours listening to his stories and they are amazing! For goodness
sake, I watched him shove an ice pick through his nose to bring home the point that we can
learn any strategy to be great!
One simple step started the whole thing, calling the success hotline daily. What’s easy to do is
easier not to do.
