How Can I Get 1% Better Today?

The answer – Struggle.

In life we are often tempted to quit when things challenge us either physically or
mentally, it’s tempting to give into our inner quitter. The inner quitter is the other person inside of
us who tells us it is okay to quit or okay to skip a rep or wake up later or take a day off. The only
way to get rid of the inner quitter is to do the things you hate to do through struggling.

Struggling does not always have to be through weightlifting or exercise, even though that
is good for you. It can be through reading a book or working a little longer on a project. When
we take advantage of the day and make the 1% extra in our life something we don’t necessarily
enjoy doing, over time that extra struggle is what contributes to growth.

The amount of time we spend doing things we love is overwhelmingly more than the
things we hate (most of the time at least). You don’t have to make your whole day a struggling
day, but how do you make time for that 1% of struggle in your day? Wake up 15 minutes earlier
or stay up 15 minutes later and read a book or do some push ups and put the phone away and
isolate yourself in the struggle. This time does not have to be alone but when you do something
you hate alone, you find growth and development through being alone with your own thoughts.
