How Can I Get 1% Better Today?

The answer – Practice Confident Humility.

Humility is recognizing we are flawed and fallible. A freedom from pride and arrogance.
The most popular definition is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less.
Confidence is a measure of how much we believe in ourselves. Confident Humility is
having faith in our capabilities while appreciating that we may not have the right solution
or even be addressing the right problem.

Having the confidence to believe in where you are going but enough humility to
understand there may be a better way to get there and staying open to new possibilities
The opposite of confident humility is arrogance. When we begin to approach the realm
of arrogance, we open ourselves up for the fall. Just when we start to think we have
everything figured out and have the special ticket to success, the fall is near. Why do
you think winning championships rarely happens back to back?

Those who have the humility to grow daily and understand that the game is always
changing while staying open to new ways of doing things, give themselves the best
chance to improve and win daily!

In my line of work, confident humility is knowing you are going to put a great team on
the field that will be highly competitive and make your community proud, while staying
open to growing and learning by visiting with other great coaches in this business.
Understanding that there is always something to learn from others that can help your
program and taking the time to learn from others is easy to do but easier not to do.

Take a trip in the near future to visit a great leader in your field. Ask a lot of questions.
Then use some reflection time and see what you can use to help your program. As you
know, a 1% improvement over 365 days is a very large improvement. Keep learning!
Stay humble but remain confident. You got this.
