Identity = your standards and thoughts of yourself. How do you see yourself in various aspects: fitness, diet, education, occupation, etc? Crazy thing is, most times we do not choose our identity. Early on, our parents or those who raise us start preaching standards and values into us. Sometimes these are good and sometimes not so good. Did you win the Parent Lottery…?

Then we go to school and the people we associate with start preaching values into us and we want to fit in so we start accepting them as our own. Before you know it, you have this identity that sometimes you didn’t even choose. The great thing is you do have the opportunity to change it. There are 3 ways to start changing your Identity today:

Faith – Know that God made you 1 of 1 to be special and do special things.

Intentions – Intentionally set out to be different, tell yourself a different, more positive story.

Associations – Get around the people you more want to be like.

Life Story: We are in Kansas City chaperoning a Thespian trip for our son. Since we identify now as people who love to walk, we picked out a breakfast place that was 1 mile away. We put those walking clothes on and took off. Listened to a great podcast (Buzz Williams on The Learning Leader) and even jogged half the trip. Had a fantastic breakfast, not the healthiest but we did walk there so 🙂… Then got up, jogged/walked back. Listen to me when I say this, this has never happened in my life. 365 days ago, we uber, eat in, skip or something. We do not get 2 miles in for the heck of it. Our identity has changed when it comes to health.

Why – We want to be around to make a difference and serve others.
