How Can I Get 1% Better Today?
The answer – Be Where Your Feet Are.
Studies have shown that nearly 50% of the time our minds are not where our bodies are. I wonder how much time we spend wishing we were somewhere else instead of being elite where we are? The only thing we have complete control over is our present! We do not control past events, nor do we control future events but what we do have the greatest amount of influence over is our present. Yes, looking back into the past allows us opportunities to grow and things to learn from, but living in the past will create disappointment and negative feelings. Yes, we need to look to the future, this is where dreams and goals exist and spending time visualizing these things is greatly important. But to reach those dreams and goals we need to do work in the present. I like to break it down like this… 10% of the time reflecting, 20% of the time dreaming, and 70% of the time working on the present to be the best you can be! I completely made these numbers up. I believe we need to spend twice as much time dreaming as looking backwards and the majority of the time we need to be in the present!
I have watched so many coaches chase a title (OC,DC,HC) and absolutely forget to be great right now as a position coach. Sometimes we chase a title when the title is not all it’s cracked up to be. If you spend all your time chasing the job, you miss out on what it takes to handle the job when you get it, hard work and growth. The best way I have seen for people to reap what they sow is by being present and working to be the very best at what they do. People notice elite people, not titles. Chasing titles can end up in frustration, doubt, and misery. To bloom where your feet are planted is the greatest way to be elite!
