How Do I Get 1% Better Today?

The answer – Be Tough.

Tough1. capable of enduring strain, hardship, or severe labor 2. Difficult to accomplish, resolve, endure, or deal with 3. Being able to withstand great force without tearing or breaking 4. Strong and resilient

Metallurgy – the branch of science and technology concerned with the properties of metals. Toughness is a measure of how much energy a material can absorb before rupturing. Steel – Tough, Glass – Hard. There is a difference. Steel can withstand great temperature and only when at the correct temperature can you bend or shape it by applying extreme pressure. It is a tough material. Take the same heat and pound the glass in an attempt to reshape it and it will surely shatter.

IMO, toughness is being able to withstand great adversity and continue to pursue the vision, mission and core values you have selected for your life.

It is easy to have adversity and let your behavior and habits fall below the line. It’s common for adversity to hit and people lose their behavior skills or turn to alcohol/drugs to self medicate and change their state. What seems to be more uncommon in today’s society is to be tough. Tough People Win. The next time you find yourself in a negative situation, think about being mentally tough! Hold to your vision, mission and core values of your life. And remember what Abraham Lincoln once said, “This too shall pass.”

“The good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything. It’s your mind you have to convince.” Vince Lombardi
